PUBLIQuartet brings its wide ranging, toe tapping Rhythm Nation to D.C. in a program that reimagines the string quartet through the pulse of American music. Newly commissioned works stand alongside music by Daniel Bernard Roumain, Jlin, Henry Threadgill, Jeff Scott, Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Mazz Swift, and Eddie Venegas, drawing on traditions that span hip hop, jazz, Afro Cuban music, electronic sound, and contemporary classical composition. Anchored by tributes to Janet Jacksons iconic album Rhythm Nation, the concert connects cultures, generations, and artistic traditions through the ensembles adventurous spirit and virtuosic playing.
