Called a voice for this historic moment (The Washington Post), bass-baritone Will Liverman joins the orchestra for the world premiere of Sniders Urge, an NSO co-commission setting texts by poet Tracy K. Smith. Stravinskys Symphonies of Wind Instruments distills music to spare, haunting phrases, while Thomas Street Song draws on the rhythms and sounds of the city. Tchaikovskys Serenade for Strings brings the evening to a warm and celebratory close.
