But women also stood at Sinai, and today, they are reshaping the sacred conversation in powerful and deeply Jewish ways. In this three-part series, we’ll draw on Dirshuni, the groundbreaking anthology of contemporary midrash written by Israeli women, to explore interpretations that are intellectually daring, spiritually searching, and profoundly moving.
Through close readings of biblical texts and modern midrash, we’ll encounter voices that challenge assumptions, recover overlooked perspectives, and breathe new emotional and ethical life into familiar stories. These interpretations are not outside the tradition; they emerge from deep learning, fierce engagement, and a passionate commitment to Torah itself.
Some readings will surprise you. Others may completely transform the way you hear the biblical text. Together, we’ll explore what becomes possible when women fully enter the interpretive tradition, discovering insights that feel at once fresh, timeless, and unmistakably Jewish.
